Although the Unicorn bass guitar is a (very limited) series produced instrument, it radiates the same exclusiveness as a strictly one-of-a-kind Marcus. This should come to no surprise, as a Unicorn is built by hand from A to Z. However, standardized body and neck shapes have resulted in a noticeably reduced production time, which in turn is reflected in a more affordable price. And since there is ample room for personalization, every Unicorn is still pretty unique: it's the customer himself (well-informed and well-advised, of course) who decides which woods, hardware and electronics will be used. In consequence, it's quite impossible to quote any prices here.
To bring a hand-made quality bass within the reach of every player, the Marcus Unicorn series
is available in 3 levels of distinction: Valley,
Slope and Peak (literally in
rising order).
Whereas the UNICORN Valley has a so-called slab contour,
a straight headstock with a string tree, less luxurious woods and
simpler but equally qualitative electronics
- the Slope on the other hand has
strategically placed comfort
contours and a tilt-back headstock, and generally resides a bit higher on the
ladder. All the way up there you'll find the UNICORN Peak. The instrument pictured here, for
instance, is adorned with a piece of topwood that costs some 250 EURO (!), and
comes equipped with active 3-band electronics with semi-parametric mids. Its body is
completely rounded, for optimum playing comfort.
Unicorn basses come in 4- or 5-string models, fretted or fretless, with a natural oil finish or sprayed (satin/high gloss, stained/unstained, solid/transparent). Other wishes are negotiable.
